How To Use Leaderboard

Follow this step-by-step guide to set up and configure your first leaderboard on monday.com

📋 Prerequisites
Before You Begin
  • A monday.com account with appropriate board access
  • A sales board with the following columns:
    • Salesperson/Owner - Person column to identify who closed the deal
    • Deal Value - Numbers column with the deal amount
    • Deal Status - Status column (must include "Won", "Closed", or "Done" status)
    • Closed Date - Date column indicating when the deal was closed
  • Permission to add board views or dashboard widgets
  • boards:read scope permission enabled for the app

🚀 Installation Instructions

Install the App
Add Sales Leaderboard to your account

Navigate to the monday.com App Marketplace and search for "Sales Leaderboard". Click "Install" to add the app to your account.

Grant Permissions
Allow the app to read board data

When prompted, grant the app boards:read permission. This allows the app to read data from your sales boards.

Add to Your Board or Dashboard
Choose where to display the leaderboard

You can add the Sales Leaderboard in two ways:

  • As a Board View: Open your sales board → Click "Views" → Select "Sales Leaderboard"
  • As a Dashboard Widget: Go to your dashboard → Click "Add Widget" → Select "Sales Leaderboard"

⚙️ First-Time Setup

Configure Column Mappings
Open the settings panel

Click the "Configure" button in the leaderboard header to open the settings panel.

Map Your Columns
Connect your board columns to the leaderboard

In the settings panel, map each required field to the corresponding column in your board:

  • Salesperson: Select the person column that identifies the sales rep
  • Deal Value: Select the numbers column containing the deal amount
  • Deal Status: Select the status column (the app will only count deals with "Won", "Closed", or "Done" status)
  • Closed Date: Select the date column indicating when deals were closed

Save and View
Activate your leaderboard

Click "Save" in the settings panel. The leaderboard will automatically refresh and display your sales data.

📊 Using the Leaderboard

Period Selection

Use the period buttons at the top to view performance for different timeframes:

  • Month: Shows deals closed in the current month
  • Quarter: Shows deals closed in the current quarter
  • Year: Shows deals closed in the current year
Key Metrics

💰 Total Revenue

Sum of all deal values for the selected period

🎯 Total Deals

Count of all closed/won deals in the period

📈 Avg Growth

Average growth percentage compared to the previous period

Leaderboard Features
  • Ranking: Sales reps are ranked by total revenue generated
  • Growth Percentage: Shows percentage change compared to the same-length period in the previous cycle
  • Streak Badge: Displays a 🔥 badge for reps with 5+ consecutive active days
  • Real-time Updates: Click "Refresh Data" to get the latest information from your board
🔄 Data Refresh

The leaderboard automatically loads data when first opened. To manually refresh:

  1. Click the "Refresh Data" button in the header
  2. Wait a few seconds for the data to reload
  3. The leaderboard will update with the latest information from your board
🖥️ Full Screen View

For a better viewing experience, click the "Open Full Screen" button to open the leaderboard in a new tab. This is especially useful for:

  • Displaying on large monitors or TVs
  • Sharing during team meetings
  • Creating a dedicated dashboard view

❓ Troubleshooting

No Data Showing

If you see "No sales data available":

  • Verify that your board has deals with "Won", "Closed", or "Done" status
  • Check that the closed dates are within the selected period
  • Ensure deal values are greater than 0
  • Confirm that salesperson names are properly assigned
Incorrect Column Mapping

If data looks incorrect:

  • Click "Configure" to review your column mappings
  • Verify that each field is mapped to the correct column type
  • Check that column IDs match your board structure
  • Save settings and refresh the data
Permission Errors

If you see permission errors:

  • Verify that the app has boards:read scope permission
  • Check that you have access to the board you're trying to view
  • Contact your monday.com administrator if issues persist
💡 Tips & Best Practices
  • Regular Updates: Refresh data regularly to keep metrics current
  • Period Comparison: Use growth percentages to track performance trends
  • Team Motivation: Display the leaderboard during team meetings to celebrate wins
  • Multiple Boards: You can add the leaderboard to multiple boards - each will use its own column mappings
